The Massachusetts Hispanic Dental Association (MHDA) is very proud to announce our 2nd SYMPOSIUM in Dental Careers on June 30th, 2012. It will be held at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Rachel Auditorium 14th Floor, One Kneeland Street Boston, MA  02111.


The Symposium is to achieve our goal of improving oral health for the Hispanic community in Massachusetts and to increase the recruitment and retention of more minorities in the Dental Field.

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear MHDA Friends,

It is a great pleasure to inform you that our Annual MHDA Meeting last March 29th, 2012 was a great success. I thank you all of you who attended.

The first highlight that I would like to inform you is that our MHDA President Dr. Zuzana Mendez, was re-elected for two more consecutive years.  Dr. Mendez has been a great role model, mentor and leader. She was recently appointed as Director of Upham’s Corner Health Center, in Dorchester, MA. Congratulations Dr. Mendez!

Annual Board of Trustees Meeting - 2012

 MINUTE: 

  • Dr. Zuzana Mendez welcome the Board Review the Agenda
  • Dr. Herman inform and updated membership by Merelyn Hong, our Vice-President Budget Report done by Dr. Elimin Tejada, our Treasure
  • Research - Project Enchanted Das Encantadora Sonrisa - bi-lingual program DA - Pending by CREST- See Proposal
  • Budget Report: Enclosed Report by Dr. Elimin Tejada
  • Dr. Herman informed that the Board needs to approval of new amendment to our MHDA By-Laws and vote the change regarding re-election of the Board of Trustees.
  • Dr. Mendez’s was re-elected MHDA President for the second term. Congratulations!
  • MHDA Board of Trustees was re-elected for two more years, including the changes announced by Dr. Herman. The President Elected Resigned last night during a phone call to Dr. Herman. He will be replaced by Dr. Merelyn Hong and Dr. Ingrid de Carreño, will be the next Vice-President.
  • Two new board of trustees were elected: Dr. Gerardo Agüero and Dr. Monica Maldonado.
  • Three of our Board of Trustees did not renew their membership and were replaced by the above doctors. According with the HDA's By-laws members of the board of directors of MHDA have to be members of HDA and Faculty advisor of the students chapters have also to be member of MHDA.
  • Dr. Herman announce our MHDA Second Symposium in Dental Career: Saturday, June 30, 2012
  • Announced this year HDA Meeting will be in Boca Raton, Florida in June, 2012
  • Dr. Herman enclosed and reminded us about the fundraising event -Zumbathon- for the project Give a Kid a Smile. This event was organized by Dr. Viviana Avila-Gnau, on March 30, 2012.
  • Two new Important events for 2013:
  • The 20th MHDA anniversary
  • Boston will be hosting the next Annual HDA Meeting 2012
  • Dr. Maritza Morell will be the 2013 HDA President.

El Planeta - Powermeter 2012

El Planeta Newspaper, the largest circulating Spanish publication in Massachusetts, has released its seventh annual Powermeter list in its February 24th publication. This is a unique sought after list of the 100 most influential people for the state’s current Hispanic community. The honorees, including Dr. Aidee Nieto Herman, were recognized at the annual Powermeter reception on Monday, February 27, 2012, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA).
